History

Takeo Okamoto
In 1946, Takeo Okamoto, returned to the Bay Area and entered the life insurance business, becoming one of the top salespersons with the Occidental Life Insurance Company. Soon he added the property and casualty insurance line, establishing an insurance agency, T. Okamoto & Co., in San Francisco. During the 1950s he saw the need for housing amongst the Japanese Americans and added the real estate brokerage to the company.

In 1964, his son, Allen, obtained his insurance and real estate brokers licenses and joined the agency. In 1973, Allen purchased the agency and the office grew from a two man office to a staff of 15 professionals. T. Okamoto & Co. is the oldest and one of the largest Japanese owned real estate and insurance agencies in the Bay Area.
